Educator’s Conference

The goal of the Educator’s Conference project is to educate teachers and other school employees with youths regarding warning signs of suicide and what to do about it, increase access to available community resources, and to utilize them as gatekeepers.

 

Population Addressed:

· Directly—educators and their support network

· Indirectly—students

 

Current activities:

· Identify optimal time for maximum educator participation

· Research continuing education credits for teachers

· Recruit educators to help design conference

 

Future activities:

· Meet with educators to identify current knowledge and identify specific areas of need

· Identify sponsors/funding sources

· Identify communication channels

· Identify and schedule speakers

· Produce invites

· Assign RSVP and $ collection system.

· Distribute  invites

 

 

 

This project directly or indirectly address the following components of the Oakland County Suicide Prevention Plan V1.0: 

 

GOAL #1: Develop broad based support for suicide prevention

GOAL #2: Promote awareness and reduce stigma

GOAL #3: Improve recognition of and response to high risk individuals within Oakland County.

GOAL #4: Identify, develop and implement community-based suicide prevention programs.

GOAL #6: Identify and promote best practices for suicide prevention/intervention.

GOAL #9: Provide support services to families, schools and others who had a relationship or involvement with victim.

The OCSPC Mission is to reduce suicides and suicide attempts across the lifespan in Oakland and surrounding counties through information, education and action.
