Link to HOPE is a NYS Office of Mental Health’ Suicide Prevention Center (SPCNY) training. It is a 90-minute skills-based workshop designed to equip community members and staff across a wide range of settings to recognize and respond to individuals who may be experiencing emotional distress or thoughts of suicide. Drawing on the familiar concept of First Aid, the training helps participants understand how to notice when someone may be signaling the need for help, directly or indirectly, and how to approach and connect with them confidently and compassionately. Participants learn how to ask openly and directly about suicide, what to do if the person responds “yes,” and how to provide supportive assistance until additional resources can be introduced.

Chalk The Walk 2026

Hope is a community effort

Join neighbors, schools, businesses, organizations, and families across our community by filling sidewalks, driveways, storefronts, and public spaces with colorful messages of hope, kindness, and connection.

Whether it’s a simple “You Matter,” an inspiring quote, or a vibrant piece of artwork, every message reminds someone they are seen, valued, and never alone.

Be sure to tag us in your social posts sharing your artwork and use the hashtag #ChalkforHopeCNY

Annual Student Video Project

Each year, students across Onondaga County come together to create powerful short videos that spark conversation, spread hope, and elevate youth voices in mental health.

On June 6th, at the Palace Theatre in Eastwood, a video premier event was held entitled, You Belong Here. Teens throughout Onondaga County created, produced, and starred in video vignettes designed to inspire hope, raise awareness, and amplify youth voice. The event was attended by more than 150 people, and included student artwork, resource tables, raffles, giveaways, and of course popcorn and beverages! In addition to a viewing of the amazing videos, a panel comprised of youth shared their personal experiences, what it meant to be a part of the video project, the intent of the productions, and the life of a teen in today’s world. The event was facilitated by Dr. Costosa-Umina, from SUNY Upstate Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic, who was instrumental in supporting the panelists as they shared their stories and wisdom.
